Visiting the Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur, an Oasis in the middle of the city

Cities can feel suffocating, especially in summer. Walls of buildings, concrete jungles, and endless cars leave little room to breathe.  Imagine finding a haven of fresh air, trees, and water right within a bustling metropolis – that's the magic of Buenos Aires' Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve.

Reserva calle interna

This urban oasis lies surprisingly close to the city center, just a stone's throw from Puerto Madero.  Its location is ideal – a short walk from the heart of the city takes you to Puerto Madero, where the Reserve's entrance awaits you just beyond the iconic Paseo de la Gloria.  Finding it is a breeze.

Encompassing a reclaimed 3.5 square kilometers of land along the Rio de la Plata, the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve offers a network of trails perfect for various activities.  Whether you seek a peaceful stroll along the river, birdwatching amidst the diverse avian population, or an invigorating bike ride through the entire reserve, this green haven caters to all preferences.

Speaking of birds, the Reserve boasts an impressive biodiversity. Over 300 species call it home, including Carpincheros (Capybaras), Coaties (Nasua nasua), and Swans. The list extends beyond feathered friends – 18 mammal species, 28 reptile species, 22 fish species, and 12 amphibian species contribute to the Reserve's rich ecological tapestry.

But the beauty goes beyond the creatures.  The Reserve flourishes with an estimated 575 plant and tree species, alongside a surprising 42 mushroom varieties.
