The Teatro Colon is one of the most important opera houses in the world. Owner of an acoustic reference, it´s an absolute must for lovers of music, the Colon theatre has always been a theater for the
public and revered by the greatest artists.
Successive architects who were in charge of the impressive work (Francesco Tamburini, Vittorio Meano and Jules Dormal) reconciled different design styles so diverse as the Greek prevailing abroad, the Italian Renaissance, good distribution and the strength characteristic of the German architecture and the grace and variety of ornamentation Bizarri associated with French architecture, "to form an admirable example of the style" eclectic "in the nineteenth century.
The building occupies 8200 square meters and total area of 58,000 m² on the site bounded by the streets Tucumán, Liberty, the pasaje Arturo Toscanini and Cerrito street (Avenida Nueve de Julio) from where it is an excellent perspective of the theater.
With capacity for 2487 spectators, divided into seven levels, the horseshoe-shaped chamber in the Italian is 32 meters in diameter, 75 deep and 28 high in an atmosphere of eclectic style, combining Frenchneo renaissance and Italian Baroque, the design of the theater presents a rich decorated in gold and scarlet.
The stage is 35 meters deep by 34 wide and mouth scene is one of the largest theaters in a horseshoe-shaped. Around the room, the large foyer (Foyer), the Golden Room, the Hall of Bustos, the White Room and the Museum which houses the costumes used by some of the celebrities who passed through the stage.
If you visit Buenos Aires its one of the places you must visit, although its beeing under reparation since two years ago you can visit some parts of the theatre.

Amazing, the interior of that building is absolutely stunning! My good friend is travelling to Buenos Aires next month. I'll make sure she has a chance to look at this.

ReplyDeleteThis is an outstanding building and I love old architecture like this. It reminds me of the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. If you are ever in the area, it is a must see. Thanks for the marvelous pictures and the super write up of this historic place.
