Buenos Aires Neighborhoods: San Telmo

San Telmo is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Buenos Aires, until 1870 it was inhabited by the wealthiest families in the city.
The San Telmo neighborhood is one of the best preserved areas within Buenos Aires, and it is characterized by its colonial houses and streets, many of which are still paved with cobblestones. Among the many attractions that can be visited in San Telmo, there are many old churches (like that of "San Pedro Telmo"), museums, antique shops and a semi permanent antiques fair the "Feria de San Telmo" in the main square, Plaza Dorrego.
There are also activities related to tango and Candombe, both to local people as to the many tourists who visit the area.
During the weekends throughout the day, the Defensa street becomes a pedestrian mall where you can enjoy street artists, puppeteers, magicians and living statues.
