Trelew a city with Welsh history

The city of Trelew was founded in 1884, its name means town of Luis in Welsh. Name that was given in honor of its founder Lewis Jones, creator of the first patagonic newspaper, and planner and builder of the railway from Trelew to Puerto Madryn.

Trelew is located on the left bank of the Chubut River and has a modern tourist infrastructure. One of the sites to visit is the old railway station, that now is the current headquarters of the regional Museum "Pueblo de Luis" and home of culture, where you can see the history of the city at different times since its founding.

There is also the Paleontological Museum "Egidio Feruglio, Lewis Jones and Fontana", showcasing fauna and flora fossils of more than 300 million years. Trelew was founded by Welsh settlers and so is celebrated each year on Eistedvod, a celebration of Welsh origin. Very near Trelew towns and cities also exist that have their origins in Welsh colonists, as Rawson, Trevelin and Gaiman.
